Hollywood Water Quality Improvement Project
The City of Los Angeles, Department of Water and Power, is building new water storage facilities to augment the existing Hollywood Reservoirs.
The Hollywood Water Quality Improvement Project (HWQIP) involves a one-mile, 72-inch diameter bypass tunnel
Two underground 30-million gallon concrete tanks.
Construction of the prestressed, wrapped concrete tanks began in 1999 and is scheduled for completion in 2001.
A 72-inch diameter Akkerman Pipe Jacking TBM was used to excavate two 120-foot long tunnels under Montlake Drive. The tunnel houses 54-inch diameter welded steel tank overflow lines.
